Biography
Doreen was born into a very musical family and sang her first public solo at the tender age of three.
As the middle child in a family of five, she sang in trios with her two older and later her two younger siblings. Although there never was any formal vocal training, she was always part of school and/or church choir where she developed her love of a wide genre of music. Soon after becoming a Christian, she was led to pursue a solo ministry and began to sing in area church services and for youth group functions.
Over the past several years, she has been the soloist for many women conferences across Ontario and in the States and a frequent guest on 100 Huntley Street. An opportunity to narrate the story of slaves arriving from Africa to the United States to freedom in Canada was given to her in the Toronto Choral Society presentation of “The Journey”. It was performed twice at the Toronto Centre for the Performing Arts and once at Massey Hall. Her passionate vocal rendition of “Waiting for me” brought the audiences to their feet each time.
Doreen is the mother of two grown daughters and four delightful grandchildren. She and her husband Winston are happily retired schoolteachers and very much involved in different ministries at their church in Brantford.
